Amano Shrimp / Japanese Algae Shrimp:
Common Name: Amano Shrimp
Species name: Caridina multidentata
Species Group: Shrimp
Origin: Native to Japan and Taiwan; made famous in the hobby by Takashi Amano for their incredible cleaning abilities.
Maximum Size: Approx 4-5cm
Diet: These are the undisputed champions of the cleanup crew. Their primary diet is algae and biofilm, but they are opportunistic scavengers. In a clean tank, they should be supplemented with high-quality sinking pellets. They are particularly fond of our TNT PumpkinPea Feast, which provides the essential vegetable matter they crave.
Ideal Water temp: 18 - 27 degrees c
PH: 6.5 – 7.5
Temperament:
Amano Shrimp are incredibly peaceful and busy. They spend almost 24 hours a day foraging. Unlike some smaller shrimp species, Amanos are bold and won't usually hide away once they are settled. They are completely harmless to fish and fry, but they are very fast—often "stealing" a piece of food and scurrying away to a quiet corner to eat it alone!
TNT Notes:
Shrimp are around 2cm in body size.
