Black Phantom Tetra - Hyphessobrycon megalopterus Species Profile:

Common Name: Black Phantom Tetra

Species name: Hyphessobrycon megalopterus

Species Group: Tetra

Origin: South America (Brazil and Bolivia)

Maximum Size: Approx 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches)

Diet: Black Phantom Tetras are omnivores. In their natural habitat, they feed on small invertebrates, insect larvae, and some plant detritus. In the aquarium, they thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flake food or micro pellets. Supplement their diet with small live or frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms to enhance their color and ensure optimal health.

Ideal Water temp: 22 - 28 degrees C

PH: 6.0 - 7.5

Temperament:

Black Phantom Tetras are peaceful, schooling fish that are best kept in groups of at least six or more, with larger groups encouraging more natural behavior and reducing fin-nipping tendencies. Males will often engage in fascinating "sparring" displays where they flare their fins at each other without causing harm. They are an excellent choice for a well-planted community aquarium with other peaceful, similarly sized fish. They tend to be a bit shy and appreciate plenty of hiding spots among plants and driftwood.

TNT Notes:

Fish are around 3-4cm in size.
