T-bar Cichlid (also known as the Sajica Cichlid) Species Profile:

Common Name: T-bar Cichlid (also known as the Sajica Cichlid)

Species name: Amatitlania sajica

Species Group: Cichlid

Origin: Central America – Specifically the Pacific slope of Costa Rica.

Maximum Size: Approx 10–12cm (Males typically grow larger than females)

Diet: T-bar Cichlids are opportunistic omnivores and are generally very easy to feed. They thrive on a base of high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes. To keep them in peak health and bring out their best colors, supplement their diet with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp. They also benefit from the occasional addition of vegetable-based foods or spirulina.

Ideal Water temp: 23 – 28 degrees c

PH: 6.5 – 7.8 (They are quite adaptable but prefer stable, neutral to slightly alkaline water)

Temperament:

T-bar Cichlids are regarded as one of the more peaceful and "well-behaved" Central American cichlids. While they are generally calm in a community setting, they are still cichlids and will become territorial and protective, especially when breeding. They are best kept in an aquarium with plenty of caves, driftwood, and rockwork to allow them to establish their own territory.

They can be successfully housed with other similar-sized, semi-aggressive fish or robust community fish like larger tetras, barbs, and medium-sized catfish. Their name is derived from the distinct dark "T" shaped marking on their flanks, which is often complemented by beautiful blue and purple highlights in their fins. They are an excellent choice for hobbyists looking for a stunning, manageable cichlid with a lot of personality.
