Giant Danio Species Profile:

Common Name: Giant Danio

Species name: Devario aequipinnatus

Species Group: Cyprinid

Origin: South and Southeast Asia – Native to the fast-flowing hill streams and rivers of countries such as India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

Maximum Size: 10-12cm - A  substantial and deep-bodied species that grows considerably larger than most other members of the danio family.

Diet: Giant Danios are active omnivores with high energy levels. They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flake food and floating pellets. To maintain their health and vibrant colors, offer regular feedings of live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Because they are surface-oriented feeders, they are usually the first to reach any food added to the aquarium.

Ideal Water temp: 22 – 27 degrees c

PH: 6.0 – 8.0 (They are very hardy and adapt well to various water conditions)

Temperament:

Giant Danios are peaceful but incredibly energetic and fast-moving. They are a schooling species and must be kept in a group to feel comfortable and show their best behavior. Due to their size and constant activity, they are excellent for larger community tanks and work well as dither fish for larger, semi-aggressive species.

They require plenty of open swimming space to accommodate their high-speed laps around the tank. Because they are powerful swimmers, a secure and tight-fitting lid is essential to prevent them from jumping out. Their shimmering blue and gold horizontal stripes make them a beautiful and lively addition to any spacious aquarium setup.
