Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnow (also known as 24K White Cloud) Species Profile:
Common Name: Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnow (also known as 24K White Cloud)
Species name: Tanichthys albonubes (Golden variant)
Species Group: Cyprinid
Origin: Originally from the White Cloud Mountains, China (The Golden variety is a selectively bred captive morph)
Maximum Size: Approx 3.5–4cm
Diet: Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnows are unfussy omnivores. They thrive on a base of high-quality crushed flakes or micro pellets. To bring out their best gold and red coloration, supplement their diet with live or frozen treats such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and cyclops. As they are top-to-midwater feeders, they prefer food that stays suspended in the water column or floats.
Ideal Water temp: 14 – 22 degrees c (They are "temperate" fish and prefer cooler water than most tropical species, though they can adapt to slightly warmer setups)
PH: 6.0 – 8.5 (They are highly adaptable but prefer clean, well-oxygenated water).
Temperament:
Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnows are exceptionally peaceful, active, and hardy, making them an ideal choice for beginners and experienced keepers alike. They are a schooling species and should be kept in groups of at least 6–8 to ensure they feel secure and display their natural "sparring" behavior (where males flare their fins at one another).
Because of their calm nature, they are perfect for community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species like Danios, Rosy Barbs, or peaceful bottom-dwellers like Corydoras. Their vibrant yellow-gold bodies and red-tipped fins provide a brilliant flash of color, especially in planted aquariums. As they prefer cooler temperatures, they are a popular choice for "unheated" indoor tanks, provided the room temperature remains stable and doesn't drop too low.
