Lake Tihu Ricefish / Medakka Species Profile:
Common Name: Lake Tihu Ricefish
Species name: Oryzias Soerotol
Species Group: Medaka (Ricefish)
Origin: Lake Tiu in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia
Maximum Size: Approx 3.5cm
Diet: Oryzias soerotoi are likely omnivores in their natural habitat, feeding on small invertebrates, algae, and other organic matter present in their clear stream environments. In the aquarium, they thrive on a diet of high-quality crushed flake food or small pellets, supplemented with tiny live or frozen foods like baby brine shrimp and microworms to ensure they receive a balanced range of nutrients.
Ideal Water temp: 20 - 26 degrees c
PH: 7.0 -> 8.0 (our ricefish breed in 7.4ph water...)
Temprement:
The ricefish is a peaceful species that can be quite active when kept in large enough schools. Though they’re gentle enough on their own, these fish are too small for the typical community tank. They’re best kept in a small school in a nano tank or with similar-sized species in a large community tank.
These fish typically inhabit the middle to upper level of the water column, so they can easily be kept with small bottom dwellers like pygmy Corydoras or small catfish like Otocinclus. Some of the best tankmates may be freshwater dwarf shrimp. The adult shrimp will be too large for Daisy’s ricefish to eat and this species is unlikely to feed on baby shrimp if they’re on the bottom of the tank.
TNT Notes:
A very rare little ricefish - The males are absolutely stunning with black and orange. Tank bred here in the TNT fishroom.
