Pearl Gourami Species Profile:
Common Name: Pearl Gourami
Species name: Trichopodus leerii (formerly Trichogaster leerii)
Species Group: Gourami (Labyrinth Fish)
Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo)
Maximum Size: Approx 10-12 cm (4-5 inches)
Diet: Pearl Gouramis are omnivores. In the wild, they feed on small insects, insect larvae, crustaceans, and some plant matter/algae. In the aquarium, they thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flake food, sinking pellets, and regular supplementation with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and mosquito larvae. They will also graze on soft algae and blanched vegetables.
Ideal Water temp: 24 - 28 degrees c
PH: 6.0 -> 7.5
Temprement:
Pearl Gouramis are generally peaceful and shy fish, making them an excellent choice for calm community aquariums. While males can be territorial with each other, especially during breeding, they are typically non-aggressive towards other species. Their long, delicate pelvic fins are sensitive, so tank mates should be equally peaceful and not fin-nippers. They appreciate a well-planted tank with plenty of hiding spots and surface cover.
